In a nutshell: Clinicians and patients are now able to collaborate in researching treatment uncertainties using a new online resource. The resource, The James Lind Alliance Guidebook, has been developed to find and prioritise unanswered questions about the effects of treatments. The guidebook is supported by the National Institute for Health Research, the Medical Research Council and NICE. The handbook can be downloaded as a PDF file (56 pages).

Finding the Evidence 1
A starting point for anyone who wants to develop basic searching skills and find out which resources to search to make finding the evidence easier and quicker. Includes demonstrations and hands-on use of PubMed, NHS databases, NHS Evidence Specialist Collections and Google.
Finding the Evidence 2
Build on your existing searching skills and develop your skills to use more advanced searching strategies and techniques and access additional evidence-based resources. Includes demonstrations and hands-on use of NHS databases (advanced), The Cochrane Library and more.
Introduction to Critical Appraisal
A basic introduction to critical appraisal concepts and techniques. This session will help you understand how to appraise research literature for its validity and relevance to clinical practice in order to support evidence based decision making.
Statistics Mentoring Clinics
One-to-one advice and guidance in statistics for those who would benefit from extra support when faced with using statistics in practice or research. Available to WUTH staff only.

Updated guidance for doctors involved in research

The guidance documents provide more detailed advice on how the principles in the GMC's core guidance Good Medical Practice and in Consent: patients and doctors making decisions together apply in the context of research.

'Making the link' health improvement conference

In a nutshell: "Making the Link” is a day long conference organised by the North West Health Brussels Office, which aims to raise awareness amongst health stakeholders on how local and regional actors can maximise European opportunities to improve health in our region.
The conference will identify areas and explore opportunities where the European and North West agendas coincide. There will be workshops focusing on:
• Health and wellbeing
• Research and innovation
• Investment in health
• Full afternoon session dedicated to EU funding for health

Updated guidelines for reporting parallel group randomised trials

In a nutshell: The CONSORT statement is used worldwide to improve the reporting of randomised controlled trials. Kenneth Schulz and colleagues describe the latest version, CONSORT 2010, which updates the reporting guideline based on new methodological evidence and accumulating experience.
