BMJ and BMJ Journals now available for all NHS users

In a nutshell: The NHS in England has centrally purchased online access to BMJ Journals for all NHS users located in England. This includes access to BMJ and 22 specialist journals such as Gut, Heart and Thorax. In addition you benefit from unrestricted online access to all the BMJ Journals back to volume 1 issue 1 via your NHS Athens username and password. New England Journal of Medicine: *New content!*

In a nutshell: The library's subscription to the New England Journal of Medicine now includes full text articles from 1993 to present, and a new feature, Videos in Clinical Medicine.

Videos in Clinical Medicine are educational videos to teach procedures requiring skilled techniques and specialized physical examination. This first series of teaching videos is intended to help students, trainees, and younger physicians to learn procedural techniques from experienced colleagues.

The videos are available both in a downloadable file and in a version compatible with handheld digital devices. Each video is from five to eight minutes long and is accompanied online by a printable summary to supplement the video.

How do I access Videos in Clinical Medicine?
Go to http://www.nejm.org/ and scroll down the page to the link to 'More Procedure Videos'.
Alternatively, go directly to http://content.nejm.org/misc/videos.dtl.
The videos are displayed as most recent additions first.

BMJ Best Practice trial starts 1st November 2009

If you have an NHS Athens username and password, visit BMJ Best Practice at http://bestpractice.bmj.com/ and select the link to ‘Log in via Athens’.

What is BMJ Best Practice?
BMJ Best Practice is an evidence based resource featuring the latest research evidence, guidelines and expert opinion – presented in a step-by-step approach, covering prevention, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis on different conditions.

For each condition Best Practice produces a summary and definition, aetiology, epidemiology, through key diagnostic steps and tests into treatment approaches with drugs, guidelines and evidence, finishing with recommendations and outlook for patient follow-up.

Research Governance & ICH-GCP Training for Researchers

In a nutshell: WUTH employed researchers should attend GCP training every 18 months, with a maximum of two years between training as a limit. WUTH Research Governance & ICH-GCP training is accredited by the Royal College of Physicians. The objective is to provide a clear understanding of why we have regulation of research; what that regulation (Research Governance) means in practice and, for the special case of clinical trials for licensing new drugs or devices, how to comply with the specific Regulatory Requirements (ICH-GCP).
