Proteinuria and the Use of eGFR National Knowledge Week (Kidney Diseases Specialist Library) 9th-13th June 2008

The NLH Kidney Diseases Specialist Library is pleased to announce its first National Knowledge Week. As a unique resource it will provide expert opinion and evidence updates on key topics in chronic kidney disease: Proteinuria and the use of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).
These will include:
* Basic science of urinary protein excretion
* Clinical aspects of proteinuria and eGFR
* Management of proteinuria and reduced GFR

The National Knowledge Week is aimed at all NHS health professionals with an interest in chronic kidney disease, and will include user-friendly summaries written by relevant experts, with links to guidelines, reviews and primary research. All information included has been subject to rigorous selection criteria.

Homeopathy National Knowledge Week (Complementary & Alternative Medicine) 9th-13th June 2008

An update of the evidence on this topic from the NLH Complementary & Alternative Medicine Specialist Library. The 2008 annual evidence update on Homeopathy aims to present the most up-to-date evidence. We have searched a large number of databases for studies published since April 2007. The update includes a summary of recent research on the use of homeopathy and selected systematic reviews and randomised controlled trials (RCTs).

Heavy Menstrual Bleeding National Knowledge Week 2nd-8th June 2008

The NLH Women's Health Specialist Library is holding its next National Knowledge Week from Monday 2 June - Sunday 8 June. Focusing on heavy menstrual bleeding this knowledge week aims to provide clinicians withthe most up-to-date knowledge on the diagnosis and management of heavy menstrual bleeding. The update brings together the results of acomprehensive literature search for new research published since May2007. The NKW provides concise summaries of the most recent NICE guidance and adds to this any new evidence identified from theup-to-date literature search. We know that it is very difficult for busy clinicians to keep up-to-date with the huge volume of literature that is published each year. The Women's Health Specialist Library does this for you so that you don't have to! The Oral Health Specialist Library

The Oral Health Specialist Library (http://www.library.nhs.uk/oralhealth/) presents an Annual Evidence Update, bringing together the latest systematic reviews and evidence-based guidelines. It's timed to coincide with the beginning of National Smile Month 18 May - 17 June). For the Update the Library has identified and critically appraised all oral health systematic reviews published during 2007. In addition, the OHSL has worked with the National Library of Guidelines (http://www.library.nhs.uk/guidelinesFinder/) to identify the latest guidelines meeting their inclusion criteria. The AEU provides an editorial from the Library's Clinical Lead, the 2007 reviews and guidelines (grouped by topic in Oral Disorders and Specialist Dentistry) and the evidence-based methods used to produce our update. This is one of three major evidence presentations the Oral Health Library has planned for 2008. In September, the Library will be launching a new Special Care Dentistry section and in November, we will present an annual evidence update on Oral Cancer to coincide with Mouth Cancer Awareness Week. The Cardiac Rehabilitation annual evidence update will run from Monday 2 June to Sunday 8 June. The update brings together the results of a comprehensive search for systematic reviews published since January 2001. The Update includes commentaries from an Expert Group, chaired by our Clinical Lead, Professor Tom Quinn:

WE ARE NOW 3

The Trust's Integrated Library Service (ILS) was Accredited on Tuesday 6th May under the National HeLicon Library Accreditation Scheme.

The ILS submitted their evidence folder electronically for the first time. The team of three external assessors thought this evidence folder and its content was the best they had seen. It will be posted on the Library Information Health Network Northwest (LIHNN) web site as an example of best practice. The assessors were extremely impressed with the ILS and all the service and innovation being undertaken. As a result the ILS was awarded the highest level of accreditation, a Level 3, under the HeLicon scheme. The ILS team had worked extremely hard to achieve this level 3 award and were delighted that this was recognised

National Knowledge Week on Rhinitis 12 - 16 May 2008

The National Library for Health (NLH) Specialist Libraries have been developed to identify and meet the information needs of particular communities of practice. They are web-based collections containing clinical and non-clinical information on the major health priority areas. Each NLH Specialist Library identifies and provides access to quality assessed information of relevance to the community that it serves.

National Knowledge Weeks aim to highlight the best current evidence for selected healthcare topics - they consist of the good quality evidence from an Annual Evidence Update (a search of research evidence on a particular topic over a 12 month period), plus user-friendly summaries written by relevant experts, and links to guidelines, secondary research and primary research, if applicable. All information included in National Knowledge Weeks has been subject to rigorous selection criteria.
